Tanks, tanks, tanks

The Tank Museum at Bovington is an amazing place.  So many tanks and history of  wars from WW1 onwards.  Lots of information  and lots to interact with including sitting inside some tanks, play areas for children, bit of dress up as well as computers and console games to play.

We visited with our grandchildren and it was a brilliant, educational and engaging day.

Jamie and Chloe really enjoyed looking for the embossing stamps and the quiz trail was a fabulous way to get around the whole museum without getting lost or repeating areas.

We arrived early so no trouble parking and the play area before the entrance entertained the children.

So many exhibits and flowed really well throughout.  Some sobering points, particularly in the trenches experience, but well put together so as not to alarm younger ones.

The tracked vehicle experience was worth the extra money.

The live action display was brilliant, the children loved it.  We had brought our own packed lunches and ate on the benches overlooking the tank display area.  We spent 45 minutes watching the "tank" display where several vehicles drive round the dirt track as someone provides commentary.  There is then a mock battle, with plenty of explosions.

So many tanks in the conservation area too.

Conventional history has the tank as a tool for breaking through enemy lines and minimising or eliminating losses, but it took on a life of its own and visiting this museum shows the entire ecosystem of the mechanised tsunami that the tank became.

What becomes of the tank?  Like most manufactured items, it will no doubt become faster, lighter and smaller, and maybe even fly, wait, that's a Drone.  Time will tell.
