Pumpkin Fun

There's a sea of orange at Sunnyhills Farm this October with its fabulous pumpkin patch where we found thousands of pumpkins of all different shapes, sizes and colours.  There are more than 45 different varieties of pumpkin.  They ranged in colour from red to yellow to green to white and black.

First of all we went for a ride on the Tractor Trailer with a story about a giant pumpkin, the farmer, the crow, the ghost and a spider.

Afterwards, we grabbed a wheelbarrow and headed down to the muddy Pumpkin patch to pick our own pumpkin.  After lots of debate we choose a perfectly round, bright orange one.

We then headed to the Carving Tent to create a masterpiece.

The lovely people at Sunnyhills took care of the clean-up afterwards too.  Each pumpkin has about 500 seeds!!

The original jack-o'-lanterns were made with turnips by the Irish and they lit them with embers to ward off evil spirits.  The Irish immigrants in America then found that pumpkins were much easier to carve.

Pumpkin picking is a fantastic family day out, and the fun continued all the way home to a warm bath as Chloe fell over in the very muddy Pumpkin patch!!!!!!!!!
