Britain was this weekend basking in sunshine - just three weeks after the Country was warned to

prepare for a decade of  soggy summers!

Sunday was the hottest day of the year.  Wimbledon reached a temp. of 40 degrees on court.

It truly was a scorching day of tennis.

Spring was one of the coldest for decades and was blamed on the jet stream moving south for several weeks but now it has moved north over Scotland to it's more usual position.

July has been a hot month with temperatures rising to 33.5C in southeast England on July 22nd.  The nights were warm too: there was a minimum recorded temperature of 20.7C in Heathrow that night.

August has started warm and sunny and on Thursday, 1st August the temperatures were the highest of the year so far at 34.1C in Heathrow, because of hot and humid air from Iberia.  

But we have also experienced a lot of rain too in the last couple of days but it did help England.  Play was cancelled on Monday at the Test Match at Old Trafford and because England only needed a draw we have retained the Ashes too.

And, not forgetting, a royal baby was born in July.
